Christian a hit with WWE's Peep-ulation
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun
Captain Charisma is on a bit of a roll. And his Peeps couldn't be happier.
Christian will step into the ring tonight at Vengeance with a shot at the WWE championship strap -- a three-way match vs. title holder John Cena and Chris Jericho
It's a scenario William Jason Reso has imagined for so long, much longer than he's been Christian.
"I feel like it's at my fingertips," says the 31-year-old, who grew up a few stone throws north of Toronto, in Orangeville. "It's all about capitalizing on opportunities. This is a special pay-per-view for me.
"I started out and basically had nothing. If I didn't make it, I didn't know what I was going to do with my life. To get to do what I dreamed about doing is unbelievable ... it's like a dream."
And now this ... a chance to remove the belt from hip-hopper Cena, a little feud that Christian sparked by talking some smack.
"There's chemistry there," says Christian, who hears a chorus of boos when he steps into the ring in the U.S., but gets large pops in Canada, where the Christian Coalition is alive and well.
"Canadian crowds are special," he says. "(Recently) I got a great response at a house show in Vancouver and they were great at RAW in Calgary. I really get blown away by that. Sometimes you can't fight that."
With the ongoing Draft Lottery ... and some big names going back and forth ... Christian doesn't worry about where he'll wind up.
"If I end up on Smackdown!, I end up on Smackdown!," he says. "It doesn't matter to me either way. With Kurt Angle and Cena moving (to RAW), there's a great opportunity for guys to step up."
Christian enjoys his wrestling persona, even if it does have the smugness turned up a notch or two.
"Some people say that's me. The same as outside of the ring," says Christian. "I'm a little sarcastic sometimes. And I like to have fun with the guys.
"But I don't think I'm going to run up behind the mailman when he's putting mail in the mailboxes and hit him with a chair.
"I don't see myself changing the way I am. It works for me. (The fans) have a choice. They can cheer or boo."
This Peep agrees. 'Cause that's how he rolls. And that's the way we like it.
