Christian just full of Charisma
By TIM BAINES, Ottawa Sun

Jay Reso wasn't always Captain Charisma ... or even Christian. Nah, he was just your normal Canadian kid. Growing up in the Orangeville area. Working at Burger King, Pizza Delight, Shoppers Drug Mart, then later as a bouncer and a wood mill.

And all the time, Reso had a dream. A dream of being a professional wrestler.

He'd watch his favourites -- guys like Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Ricky Steamboat, Hulk Hogan,Ted DiBiase and Cowboy Orton.

And he'd wrestle with his boyhood buddy, Adam Copeland, who's done pretty well as WWE star Edge.

So, Reso took some of his college loan and invested in a wrestling school.

The blood, sweat and tears from Sully's Gym, in downtown Toronto, have now turned into blood, sweat and tears and a nice, regular WWE paycheque. And while he's a heel, a guy who thrives on getting fans to boo him, don't think he wasn't at least a little moved to hear Toronto fans cheer him at last Mondays' RAW.

Reso isn't really Christian in real life ... and Christian isn't Reso. But it's not an outrageous extension.

"There has to be some of yourself in your character," said 31-year-old Christian. "It seems to be a gift of mine to get under people's skin quickly. I just turn the volume up.

"I never had dreams of being a weekend warrior. Work out of the office all week and wrestle on weekends? That wasn't for me.

"When I really got a feel for this and got some confidence, this was something I knew I could do. And I'm not done yet."

Christian says the Captain Charisma moniker "just kind of rolled off my tongue," when he was returning from a back injury.

He's feeling good about himself these days, even if it means listening to a stream of boos.

"Sometimes all it takes is your music and the boos start to rumble," he said.

As far as being a celebrity, he says: "It's a little strange. I don't know if it's something you ever get used to. But I never see myself as different from the next person. It just shows you how powerful TV is."

With all the talk of who might succeed Triple H as the next WWE champion, Christian knows what will complete his success story.

"It would be a void in my career if I didn't win the WWE title," he said. "I would like to be in that position. But right now, all I can do is work hard and try to be entertaining."

Entertaining, indeed. Not bad for a wrestling fan from Orangeville. A fan who made his dream come true.
