It's funny isn't it, just when you think everything's going to be ok, life takes another unexpected turn. This time it was for the worse.
Since the brothers forgiveness of one another their bond had grown stronger than that of a mother and her child. They were inseparable. No longer was Edge's life filled with loneliness and despair, he had his brother at his side.
They went everywhere together, shared everything they had, spilled their passions desires, dreams. No longer was Edge's life empty, no longer was he friendless, his brother was his one and only friend, and he loved him for that. They faced everything together, every trouble, every pain. But what they had to face now, would shake both their existences.
Edge was in the shower when he first noticed it, he knew every mark, every indent of those scars on his chest and stomach. He had, had years to study them, run his fingers along them, come to know every inch of the marks that stained his body. But what he found today took him quite by surprise.
He ran the soap near his left nipple, feeling it ripple over his memories, and then that's when he noticed it, a cry of pain escaping from his lips, the soap stinging his body.
In an instant Christian was at the bathroom door, banging his fists desperately on the pained wooden door.
"Edge? Edge are you ok?" His voice sounded of panic.
"Uhh, yeah Christian I'm fine!" Edge tried to slow his voice as not to worry his brother.
But he knew he wasn't fine, he knew something was wrong. The water ran over his naked body, his long blond hair clasping to his back releasing the water from it's tangles, his strong long fingers ran over the scar that had caused him so much pain. The soap had been dropped, and it lay, the water of the shower lashing at it.
It was the 13th scar, the one that had ripped into his body, tearing his flesh like none before. The 13th, the unlucky number, once more destroying his life.
He ran his fingertips gently over it, it didn't feel the same, it was a deeper crimson than it had ever been, it felt some way bigger, bumpier, and a whole lot more painful than ever before. Edge knew that something was wrong with his scar, but who could he turn to? He hated hospitals, everyone staring at his disfigured torso, so fixated on looks they were. Peering at him, he just wanted to hide, run and hide. No he wouldn't go to a hospital. Christian? He shook his head the water spraying off his face, no he didn't want to alarm his little brother.
By the time he got help it was to late.
Christian sat on the edge of his brothers bed just like when they were children. His soft eyes stared lovingly at his brothers sleeping form. It reminded him of their childhood, it was just was the same as it had always been. Edge lying, in so much pain, Christian desperately trying to comfort him.
But this time they both knew nothing could be done.
Christian held his brothers pain stricken hand in his own, grasping into it, holding it, never wanting to let him go, in case if he let go, his brother would be gone forever. His deep tear filled eyes peered down at his brothers infection filled body. He could see he was sweating uncontrollably, the shivers were slowly setting in now. The scar that Edge had hid from his brother was killing him. It had become infected, and by the time he got help, it was to late. The infection had spilled into his body, attacking everything in it's path. And now it was just a matter of time before Christian lost his brother forever.
Christian sat on his brothers bed watching Edge sleep, He had tried to make up to his brother, by taking the brunt of what ever they went through. But this, Edge would have to fight alone.
Christian woke up with a start, a pain rushed down his back, and he tried to stretch himself to get comfortable. He had fallen asleep by his brothers hospital bed, leaning over, using his brothers arm a pillow. As he sleepy eyes opened themselves, he noticed his big brother staring almost out of it at him.
Christian knew he had only minutes left. All the air in the world, all the medicine and technology couldn't save the one thing he loved more than life itself.
"Christian?" Edge's voice was distant and soft, each word that slipped though his lips became more and more hard to get out, they grew more distant.
Christian re positioned himself so he sat on his brothers bed, he once again took his brothers hand in his own. The tears filled his eyes as he looked down upon his brothers pain stricken body. It lay under the blankets, the sweat that trickled down his body, being soaked up by each blanket, his body trembling with each shiver that rushed through him.
"Yeah Edge?" was all that Christian could muster though his tears.
"If I had to do it all over again for you, I would little bro." His voice was so distant now, it resembled nothing of the Edge Christian once knew, now it was replaced with a shell, a hollow, vacant shell.
"I love you Christian"
Christian watched as his brothers green eyes that were once filled with so much life, slipped away and closed, his body taking one last breath, before it exhaled, letting go of the life he had lived, ending it forever.
Even though he knew it was coming, the tears still came, streaming down his face, leaving hot trails down his pale cheeks. Christian held onto his brothers hand, not wanting to let it go, his voice, low, whispering and warm.
"I love you to Edge, I'm gonna live my life for you just like you lived yours for me."
