Part 11
Christian stood outside Gangrel's hotel room, mentally preparing
himself. He
knew he was in for a beating far worse than anything before--not only
had he
missed his curfew, but he had been crying before he left. Weakness
and
tardiness--he wasn't sure if he was gonna make it out of this one
alive.
He slid his key card through the slot, and opened the door. The room
was
dim, and smelled of sex--Grel and Edge must have been at it all
night. The
thought nearly made him gag, but he supressed it, quietly stepping
inside.
He looked around--no sign of Gangrel. He walked a little farther in.
Suddenly, the door slammed behind him.
"And where were you all morning?"
"I was...umm, I was...talking to Shane."
"Oh, really. And what were you two talking about?"
"Umm...just....just business, sir."
"Really?? Hmm...that's fascinating, Christian." All of a sudden, a
sharp
blow to the back of his head knocked him to the floor.
"Don't LIE to Me, bitch!! First, you cry like a little baby. Then you
come
in at fuckin' quarter of two in the afternoon!! And then you have the
nerve
to LIE to me?!?!?" Gangrel kicked at him while he talked, driving in
each
point with the tips of his boots. Christian remained silent, holding
back
the tears that were threatening to fall. His mind wandered back to
Matt and
Jeff. The two were just fuck buddies--that's exactly what Grel and
Christian
had been to start with. How come the Hardys get to keep being happy
while he
had to suffer so much? Jealousy rose in his stomach, blinding,
intense
jealousy that nearly made him throw up.
Gangrel was still screaming and kicking when the phone rang.
"Don't fucking move." He went to answer it. Through his pain,
Christian
could hear snippets of conversation.
"You want to se who?...Him?!? Why? He doesn't...I see...yes, Mr.
McMahon...he'll be right over...no sir...yes, I understand. He'll be
right
there...bye."
Gangrel angrily slammed down the receiver, so hard it bounced off
again. He
stomped to the closet and pulled out a black shirt, tossing it
angrily at
Christian.
"Get the fuck up and put that fucking shirt on."
"Master? What's happening?"
"Shane wants to see you in his suite pronto. If I find out you did
something
wrong, I swear to God I'll kill you."
Christian stood up and put the shirt on, swallowing hard. Shane's job
was to
deal with all disciplinary issues, so he must have done something
wrong...
He left the room, taking the elevator up to the fifth floor. Shane's
suite
was 515, right next to the Hardys. Timidly he knocked on the door.
Shane
answered it.
"Ah, Christian. Come right in."
Christian walked into the room. There on the couch, were Matt and
Jeff, both
shirtless and smiling.
"What the--"
"Hi Chris."
"What are you two doing here?"
"We promised to do Shane a favor if he did one for us. I told Jeff
what was
going on, and this was his idea."
Christian practically ran to the couch, hugging Jeff, then Matt.
"Thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!" The Hardys laughed, then made room for
Christian to sit in between them. He rested his head on Matt's
shoulder, and
Matt absentmindedly stroked his hair.
Shane sat down on a cushy chair next to the couch. "I don't know
what's
going on here, but how come I don't get a hug?" He pouted, and the
three on
the couch laughed, then all jumped up and hugged him together.
Matt was a little surprised that Christian was even able to laugh,
but the
sound was like music to his ears, smooth and lilting. He could spend
forever
listening to Christian laugh.
The hugging soon turned into an impromptu wrestling match on the
floor,
until all four were exhausted.
"Umm, guys??"
"Yeah, Chris?"
"We need to think of something to tell Grel, a reason for me having
to come
up here. And it can't be because I'm in trouble for something."
The four men all started thinking. Shane's only job was disciplinary
issues,
so what other reason could there be?
"I might have an idea." Jeff was the first to speak. "Maybe Christian
has
been showing exemplary behavior, and you wanted him up here to thank
him for
keeping out of trouble when it seems like everyone else is having a
contest
to see who can break the most rules."
"No, I wouldn't keep him up here that long to thank him. Besides,
it's fun
to break the rules." He smiled knowingly at Matt and Jeff. It was one
of
Vince's rules that office workers couldn't sleep with employees. Matt
and
Jeff both giggled a little.
"Umm, maybe Vince asked you to take care of something for a little
while...room assignments again, and you wanted to see if everyone's
happy
where they are, so you had to bring him up here and ask him about his
room?"
"No, on the phone I made it sound urgent...a room satisfaction
inventory
isn't urgent. But the Vince thing is a good idea, he's in Connecticut
right
now, and everytime he leaves I take over a bunch of stuff."
"You were discussing contract renewals. Your idea was to split up the
Brood,
keep Grel and Edge together and send Chris off on his own. Christian
had to
spend all this time convincing you not to split them up. It's urgent
because
his contract expires at midnight tomorrow, and you want to have a new
one
all ready for him."
The three other men looked at Jeff, then smiled. Christian jumped at
him and
hugged him again.
"Oh, Jeff, you're so smart!!! Genius!!!" Jeff smiled. All of a
sudden, Chris
pulled away.
"But what did we decide about the contract?"
"You persuaded me to take out the part about the Brood split up, but
I
refused to make you guys a group for life, so the contract is
noncomittal."
"Ok...but what if Grel finds out that my contract doesn't actually
expire
tomorrow?"
"Chris, that *is* when it expires. I don't know how this little imp
foud
out, but I think it's time Matt tought him not to snoop."
"Ok...great!! And that'll save me a little...Grel'll be happy that I
refused
to let you split us up!!"
Christian smiled, then kissed Jeff and Shane each on the cheek for
helping
him, so overcome with joy that he even kissed Matt, even though Matt
hadn't
really helped with the idea.
Christian stayed for another hour, just laughing and talking with his
friends. It was Heavenly to know that they cared about him this much,
and he
was nearly giddy with the rush he got from outsmarting Gangrel.
Finally,
reluctantly, he got up to leave. Matt tried to pull him back down and
make
him stay, but Christian refused.
"I don't wanna pass the time of believability. Pretty soon, I will
have
spent a suspiciously long amount of time convincing Shane. Thanks for
the
help, guys."
And as much as he didn't want to, Christian left his Heaven and
returned to
his Hell.
