Just prior to leaving the arena Tuesday night, former Intercontinental Champion Christian offered the following quote to WWE.com concerning his decision to quit World Wrestling Entertainment.
"Looking for a shoot interview? Looking for the inside scoop? You want to know all about how I walked into Vince’s office . . . how we got into a huge argument, slammed the door - stormed out of the company, and maybe one day they’ll have a self destruction of Christian DVD – that’s what you’re looking for?
Well, that’s not what happened. The actual reason is . . . well it’s a lot of personal reasons as to why I made the decision to leave WWE, and actually too many to get into, but I will say this . . . I gave everything I had to the WWE for eight years. I gave everything to the fans. I feel they gave me everything they had. But you know never say never in this business. Hopefully they won’t forget about Christian and we’ll see what happens in the future."

As previously reported, Christian's bio on the SmackDown! page has been taken down, however he is still featured on the Taboo Tuesday website as an option for the tag match (given his professional decision to work the PPV.) Also, the Christian Peep Show t-shirt is still available on WWEShop.com and may lower in price now that Christian isn't an actual member of the roster (WWE loves to make money off of talent, employed or no.)

Christian is backstage at Raw. His WWE deal officially expires today. He isn't there as part of an attempt to mend fences with WWE management as he turned down their latest offer. Christian has agreed to appear tonight and will appear on Taboo Tuesday tomorrow if he's voted in by the fans.

From what we understand, Christian is in Anaheim for TV and was planning on going to San Diego for Taboo Tuesday even though he probably won't be voted in. WWE may change those plans but he was expected to be at both dates to be a professional. The big question has been why WWE released the information before late Tuesday after the show. Paranoia is striking deep.

For the many who have asked, it looks like WWE owns the rights to the name "Christian" when it comes to wrestling, as the trademark notice below shows. Christian, whose real name is Jay Reso, had used the ring name Christian Cage before shortening it to Christian shortly after his arrival in WWE. It looks like Christian/Jay will have to find a new ring name if he plans on continuing his in-ring career.

For those who have asked, Christian's quitting WWE is not a work. He worked his last match for WWE last night at the Smackdown taping in Los Angeles. He was in negotiations for a new contract, as I believe his old one expires today, and did not like the terms he was being offered from WWE and turned down the deal. From what I have heard, his leaving took at least some people in WWE management by surprise. On the flip side, we have been reporting for months now that Christian was not happy with the way WWE was using him, especially after they brought him to the cusp of main event status, only to push him back down the card. So to others in the company, his turning down WWE's offer wasn't a surprise at all. WWE has already pulled down his bio on the Smackdown page. It's also interesting to note that unlike what they have done with others in the past, they did not wish him well on the page when they announced his left the company.

Jay Reso's final match in WWE was last night at the TV tapings in Los Angeles. While the WWE web site reported him quitting, which was accurate, what happened was a week ago in San Francisco, he was given a new contract, as his old one expired, and told to sign on the spot. He didn't sign. He did come back to work and do another job last night when he quit.

Christian on HBO Boxing
"With no Smackdown show tonight, both Undertaker (well, he gets off on
big fight weekends) and Christian will be in Manny Pacquiao's corner
for tonight's fight against Hector Valezquez which is on HBO from the
Staples Center in Los Angeles. Christian was at yesterday's weigh-in
while Undertaker will be carrying the flag into the ring. The boxing
www.secondsout.com web site in describing Christian, called him "a
hugely talented performer...but sadly, wrestling promoters don't value
smaller fighters like boxing promotions do, and Christian has been
held back by his bosses despite the fact he's probably the most
charismatic character on WWE TV." Well, I guess he'll like reading
that. See what happens when you get Observer writers infiltrating the
boxing press."

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
What did he do, spill coffee on Vince McMahon?
Can anyone explain what has been going on with Captain Charisma? He cuts some great promos to build up a feud with John Cena, a program that you may have missed if you blinked. Then Christian gets put on Smackdown, and his first appearance ends with JBL squashing him because Christian, for no rhyme or reason, stared at Booker T as he left the ring. Now, he is given a talk show segment, but rather than allowing him to introduce the concept, they go right to his first guest, Rey Mysterio. Then, at the end of the night, Rey Mysterio, with all the mental anguish of his son not speaking and his arch rival threatening to turn his world upside down again, manages to beat Christian clean in the middle. In the span of a few weeks, Christian has gone from the cusp of a main event push to being a mid-card enhancement talent. He earned his chance at the top (that he never got), and he deserves better than this.

The case of Christian and his merchandise just keeps getting weirder and weirder. There was a story floating around last week, which I haven't been able to confirm, that a Washington DC area worker has the rights to use the "Captain Charisma" name and that is why Christian doesn't have any shirts for sale at WWE.com. The odd part is, he wore a "Captain Charisma" shirt on Smackdown last week. On top of that, on his personal bio page on WWE.com, it says, "Get Captain Charisma merchandise", which takes you to a
page
with nothing Christian related on it. Weird.

Mike Cunha sent this one, which is a good thing because I know nothing about this kind of stuff! ... WWE has a collectible card game called "Raw Deal". A set of cards for Christian is going to be released in early October, and he was to be referred to as Captain Charisma. Well, WWE has now told Comic Images (the makers of the game) that he now has to be referred to as CLB and if you check Shopzone, all Captain Charisma merchandise has been removed. It's kind of weird considering how over he is, to suddenly pull his merchandise. Captain Charisma's cards were the most anticipated cards of the new Raw Deal set entitled: Unforgiven. In a poll to determine which order the cards would be spoiled on the Official Yahoo Group of over 3000 members, Captain Charisma beat Batista, Immortal Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper and a few others.
While on the subject of Christian, James Stewart sent this one. ... I saw your report about the Christian T-Shirt today. I went to purchase one from WWE.com early last week only to get "The product you have tried to access is no longer available for purchase on this site" my screen. You can see what I mean at this link.
The shirt in question is a "Captain Charisma" shirt. As we reported a few weeks ago, a number of sources have told us that Christian has been noticeably unhappy backstage (but still professional) about having his push's legs cut out from under him of late. I don't blame him one bit.

JBL won the six-way on Smackdown and was put over huge, constanty kicking out of everyone's finishers, but it turns out, it was for the No. 1 contendership for Batista. Christian replaced Show and the scary sign is that live, Christian was more over than any of the Smackdown regulars.
